A 400 Year CELEBRATIONThe Society of Mayflower Descendants will be kicking off the 400th Anniversary of the 1620 voyage of the Mayflower in grand style in Pasadena, California!
Approval has been granted to the General Society as a float participant in Tournament of Roses 131st Rose Parade® presented by Honda to be held Wednesday, January 1, 2020. We are looking for enthusiastic Mayflower Descendants to contribute to this remarkable journey, just like the passengers on the Mayflower did in 1620. |
HOW to GET INVOLVED
- Tell your friends, family and colony members about this tremendous opportunity to tell the true story about the Pilgrims.
- Begin to make plans to come to Pasadena, California for the 131st Rose Parade to cheer on your fellow Mayflower Descendants. Hasn’t that been your dream since you have seen in on the television, anyway? More information is available on the following documents (click to open): Transportation and Accommodations.
- We have created two ways to directly donate to the "CA 2020 Fund" and GSMD for the Rose Parade Float:

1) If you live within California and are a member of the California Mayflower Society and wish to donate, please click "Donate" at the bottom of this page.
2) If you live outside of California or are not a member of the California Mayflower Society, please go to the "GSMD GoFundMe" page for the Rose Parade Float and donate there. We are so thankful for your donation. All funds raised will be used to support our Rose Parade Float and associated costs. All donations are tax deductible. The California Mayflower Society is a 501(c)(3) Educational Charity." |
- Plan a fundraiser to benefit the 2020 Rose Parade float. The California 2020 Committee has some available for all ages. Watch this website or send us an email for more information.
- Volunteer your time to decorate the Mayflower float during November and December 2019. “Petal Pushers” are needed to ensure our float is finished on time for the trip down the boulevard on New Year’s Day! An average float can take about 7,000 hours, so we need a lot of help! Click this link to see FAQs regarding being a Float Decorating Volunteer. - Consider participating with period correct attire geared to 1600-1620. To sign up to participate in the Rose Parade, please download forms below. Help us tell the accurate story of our Mayflower ancestors. Watch this website for more information. Or you can contact us via email.

Guidelines for Period-Correct Costumes
In the early 17th century, clothing would have been made by many hands thus making a period-correct costume in the 21st century for a Pilgrim can often be a challenge! The following links have been provided to help guide those interested in participating as a float rider or an outwalker in the 2020 Mayflower Rose Parade® Float: The Voyage of Hope—1620. The costume mission is to educate spectators and TV viewers about the passengers on the Mayflower through the visual display and communication of period correct-costumes and accessories. Non-participants are also encouraged to browse through the materials as well.
Although we do not know specifically what everyone wore, research has proven that the Pilgrims wore color and their varied clothing represented different professions and trades. The guideline links show some of the variations and are provided to help generate your own creativity. Also included are source materials and historical patterns available for purchase from different companies. The Costume Coordinator, Jane Wong may be contacted to answer costume questions. Please email and note “Costumes” in your subject heading.
